1. This Week's JumpstartBegin each day with this question: "What am I going to do today that will make the best use of my time and energy, and lead me a step closer to reaching my goals?" During the day, each time you are faced with a decision, ask yourself: "Does this action substantially help me toward achieving my goals?" Before you leave your workplace or before you go to sleep at night, make a list of your most urgent priorities for the following day in order of their importance. You might consider dividing your activities into A, B, and C lists: A is for action immediately Become aware of interruptions and distractions that block your success. Constant telephone calls are the most common. Spending too much time reading and answering personal e-mails is another problem. Chatting with co-workers eats up more time. Messy files, disorganized scheduling and cluttered desks are roadblocks. Take an objective look at your routines and habits. And then take action! Until next week, keep following your A, B and C's!
2. The Champion Within ArticleHow Do You Measure Success? by Denis WaitleyQuality of life, in America today, is often measured by the amount of money you make. Success is defined by the kind of car you drive. By the neighborhood you live in. By the toys you own. After all, he who dies with the most toys wins. True or false? Life was difficult before remote controls and automatic door locks. Skiing was so boring before the new shape skis hit the market. Fishing without a carbon-fiber rod was next to impossible. And the best part of life today is that big-screen plasma HDTV, the one with the universal remote that controls everything. It's the best escape devised yet from an otherwise dull evening. In contrast, the people of the remote Himalayan country of Bhutan were recently rated as having the poorest quality of life of all but one other country in the world --- after all, their average annual per capita income is only $500. Ironically, however, when you visit the country, there are no beggars, only beautiful, snow-capped peaks, virgin forests, and clean air. The crime rate is extremely low, no one is in a hurry, and there is a strong sense of community. You might almost think that instead of depending on their belongings to entertain them, they've learned to enhance their lives by building relationships with each other. Be careful to avoid the trap of, "the more you buy, the more you need". Because oftentimes then the more we think we need, the more unhappy we are with what we have. So this year, before buying those new golf clubs, stop and think. Will that $1,000 bring you more happiness through a bag of irons, compared to a few days off with your family, or as a donation to an organization, or a person who is trying to make a difference. It's your choice. It's how you measure it. So this week count your blessings instead of your possessions. Spend more time with those you love, instead of spending more money on things you lack.

Seeds of Greatness by Denis WaitleyI'd Rather Watch a Winner I'd rather watch a winner, than hear one any day; So please, my loving parents let your lives show me the way. I'm only a reflection of what you taught today I may misunderstand you and the high advice you give; But there's no misunderstanding how you act and how you live. So teach me by example, don't preach about what's right; And show me by your actions every day and night. I know that you're not perfect, in the things you do and say; And the lectures you deliver are to help me find my way; But I'd rather watch a winner, than hear one any day.
4. The Winner's Edge Coaching TipsThis week's coaching tip continues our focus on communicating with children from our last Ezine edition. Whether you realize it or not, you send several hundred verbal and non-verbal messages to your children each day. You don't have to say a word to send a message to your child. You can turn off verbal communications, but not the non-verbal ones. Ninety-three percent of all communication is non-verbal and parents under stress often withdraw from one another and from their children, and when they do communicate, it tends to be bossy and irritable. First you listen, and then you talk. Decide that for you the conversation is going to be about listening. Devote your attention to what your son or daughter is saying because kids are very good at detecting insincerity. Make it clear that you are listening and trying to understand your child's point of view. When your child describes an event, repeat what you think your child has just said. You might say, It sounds like you're saying ’ Don't be too quick with advice. Pat answers imply that the child's problem is too simple and maybe not significant. Listen while the child explores all aspects of the situation. Often, your child will talk himself or herself into the same solution you were eager to offer.
