1. This Week's Jumpstart
Happy Belated Valentines Day! I thought this was an appropriate Jumpstart for the day after Valentines Day, so enjoy! -- DW
Customer Service Rep: LOVE Technical Support
Customer: I'm not very technical, but I think I can do it if you talk me through. I am ready to install now. What do I do first?
CS Rep: The first step is to open your HEART. Have you located your HEART?
Customer: Yes I have, but there are several programs running right now. Is it okay to install while they are running?
CS Rep: It depends. What programs are running?
Customer: Let me see... I have PASTHURT.EXE, LOWESTEEM.EXE, GRUDGE.EXE, and RESENTMENT.COM running right now.
CS Rep: No problem. LOVE will automatically erase PASTHURT.EXE from your current operating system. It may remain in your permanent memory, but it will no longer disrupt other programs. LOVE will eventually overwrite LOWESTEEM.EXE with a module of its own called HIGHESTEEM.EXE. However, you have to completely turn off GRUDGE.EXE and RESENTMENT.COM. Those programs will prevent LOVE from being properly installed. Can you turn those off?
Customer: I don't know how to turn them off. Can you tell me how?
CS Rep: My pleasure. Go to your Start menu and invoke FORGIVENESS.EXE. Do this as many times as necessary until GRUDGE.EXE and RESENTMENT.COM have been completely erased.
Customer: Okay, I'm done. LOVE has started installing itself automatically. Is that normal?
CS Rep: Yes it is. You should see a message that says it will reinstall for the life of your HEART. Do you see that message?
Customer: Yes I do. Is it completely installed now?
CS Rep: Yes, but remember that you have only the base program. You need to begin connecting to other HEARTS in order to get the upgrades.
Customer: Oops... I have an error message already. What should I do?
CS Rep: What does the message say?
Customer: It says ERROR 412 - PROGRAM NOT RUN ON INTERNAL COMPONENTS. What does that mean?
CS Rep: Don't worry, that's a common problem. It means that the LOVE program is set up to run on external HEARTS but has not yet been run on your HEART. It is one of those complicated programming things, but in non-technical terms it means you have to "LOVE" your own machine before it can "LOVE" others.
Customer: So what should I do?
CS Rep: Can you find the directory called "SELF-ACCEPTANCE"?
Customer: Yes, I have it.
CS Rep: Excellent, you are getting good at this.
Customer: Thank you.
CS Rep: You're welcome. Click on the following files and then copy them to the "MYHEART" directory: FORGIVESELF.DOC, SELFESTEEM.TXT, REALIZEWORTH.TXT, and GOODNESS.DOC. The system will overwrite any conflicting files and begin patching any faulty programming. Also, you need to delete SELFCRITIC.EXE from all directories, and then empty your recycle bin afterwards to make sure it is completely gone and never comes back.
Customer: Got it. Hey! My HEART is filling up with really neat files. SMILE.MPG is playing on my monitor right now and it shows that WARMTH.COM, PEACE.EXE, and CONTENTMENT.COM are copying themselves into my HEART!
CS Rep: Then LOVE is installed and running. You should be able to handle it from here. One more thing before I go...
Customer: Yes?
CS Rep: LOVE is freeware. Be sure to give it and its various modules to everybody you meet. They will in turn share it with other people and return some really neat modules back to you.
Customer: I will. Thank you for your help
Love,
-- Denis Waitley

Set Up a Learning Resource at Home and at Your Place of Business with Both Personal and Professional Development Materials by Denis Waitley
Every office conference, lunch, exercise, and recreation room should be filled with personal enrichment materials including videos, audios, books, magazines, newsletters, software, TV and internet programming.
Convert a special area of your home into a learning center, especially if you have children. The trend globally is to combine a coffee house like Starbucks, with bookstores like Barnes and Noble, to create a relaxing learning environment. In the twenty-first century, gaining knowledge will blend into our lives as part of our leisure time. There are several ways to create more of an ongoing learning environment at your place of business. Many companies are providing TV and internet access to personal development programming, asking employees to volunteer to read a specific trade or business magazine and clip or scan articles relevant to the organization. Regular email dispersals are also popular.
In today's fast-forward, knowledge-based world, if you're not moving ahead you are falling behind.
Action Idea: Make two files in your computer: one for personal development and one for professional development. Download MP3 files, articles and emails that educate and inspire you in these files. You also can scan articles from magazines into these files. Look at these files at least once per week.
Also subscribe to internet based or TV based personal development programming, purchase CDs, DVDs and books for your personal and professional development library.
Consciously staying on a learning curve will benefit you in every area of your life and help keep sharp and current in your knowledge and training.

3. Seeds of Greatness by Denis Waitley
Guideposts in the Savage Paradise (Excerpted from Denis Waitley's latest book,
Safari to the Soul)
With only two days remaining on my first safari, I made myself a check-off list of skills I needed to develop around a knowledge-base to graduate from being a cautious "tourist" in life to becoming a courageous "guide" for myself and family. The next-to-last morning I wrote:
Know your environment
Know the participants
Know your own strengths and limitations
Know your purpose and inner motives
Know that others have a different agenda, often hidden
Know that there are givers and takers, prey and predators
Know how to be a giver, but not a prey for predators
Know enough to say "I don't know."
Know that change is the rule, but not the ruler
4. The Winner's Edge Coaching Tips
This week is part three of a four part series of coaching tips for the New Year -- I call it paying the price. I've studied and counseled many world class athletes and what inspires me most is watching individuals overcome setbacks or a series of setbacks during their conquest to win. I view those individuals as models for commitment and self-discipline.
Our the third part is you have to lean into curves. This becomes easy enough after a while, but at the beginning just as with snow skiing the natural tendency is to incline yourself away from what appears to be a potentially dangerous situation. You've got to realize that the best way to avoid falling doesn't involve simply staying as far as possible from the ground.
Now how does that translate into "real life"? I interpret it that when faced with challenges and obstacles in our lives, that we should "lean into" the challenge. What I mean by that is this... Instead of fighting and resisting the challenge or trying to avoid it, move forward through it, take on the challenge and work through it. Chances are that no matter what you're going to have to face it and handle it sooner or later. So why prolong the situation? Go ahead, face it head on and work to get through it and triumph over it as you are faced with it. So many times we waste effort and time trying to avoid something that is inevitable when instead we can face it, embrace it and win through it. And on the other end we've gained valuable new skills, or sharpened necessary abilities to continue winning at life.
Here's to facing your challenges head on and winning through them! -- DW
