1. This Week's Jumpstart

I was privileged to be part of a remarkable event one year ago this week in Anaheim CA - The Jim Rohn Weekend Leadership Event. Along with Jim, Brian Tracy and several other great presenters, I spent 2 hours on the topic of "Leadership in Action - How to Outthink, Outperform, Outserve and Outlast the Competition". I also participated with Jim in a Q & A Lunch, and then with Jim, Charlie "Tremendous" Jones and Chris Widener in a Special Teenager Session "The Winning Generation, Why Now is the Best Time in History To Be a Teenager" (including a 2 minute rap version of a poem I wrote for the teenagers). I was also part of the "magical" final day Speakers Roundtable - Featuring Jim Rohn, Brian Tracy, Charlie "Tremendous" Jones, Donna Krech, Jerry Clark, Vic Johnson, the audience and me. I also did two behind the scenes interviews!

That sounds like a lot, but remember this program was 3 full days and is covered on 24 hours of DVD.

In today's issue I've included excerpts from this event in our Champion Within article and Seeds of Greatness quotes - I know you will enjoy and benefit from them.

I consider the event last year as one of the best events I have ever been a part of in my 25+ years of speaking. This week you can take advantage of a very special One-Year Anniversary Offer - scroll down to #5 below.

Problems are a Normal Part of Change by Denis Waitley

(Excerpted from the 2004 Jim Rohn Weekend Event CD/DVD Package)

When asked, "How do you develop mental toughness in life?", my response might sound negative at first when I answer, "Always be prepared for a surprise. The surprise might be a negative surprise. Something is going to happen in your day, whether you are late because you got stuck behind a train or your car had a flat tire -- something is going to happen... And the key is your ability not to take mole hills and look at them as mountains."

Problems are a normal part of change. Things are changing so rapidly that there are going to be problems you face. So you must look at failure as an event, not as a person. I'm not a failure. Maybe I've had a failure or a temporary inconvenience. I've had a stumbling block, and the idea is to turn the stumbling block into a stepping stone, and step on it instead of stumble over it. So look at failure as the fertilizer of success.

Fertilizer stinks, it smells. You see that guy putting it on his lawn and you say, "Wow, that guy fertilized his lawn." You fertilize your mistakes. You don't wallow in them, lay in them, roll in them; you pick yourself up off your mistakes and learn from them. You try not to repeat that same thing again. But you look at it as a temporary inconvenience, as a detour -- a detour in life -- not as a failure."

3. Seeds of Greatness by Denis Waitley
(Excerpted from the 2004 Jim Rohn Weekend Event CD/DVD Package)

Q: "What is happiness and how do you get it?"
A: "That's just it--you can't drive it, you can't wear it, you can't live in it, you can't drink it, smoke it, snort it, you can't travel to it. Happiness is the experience of the journey. The experience of happiness is the result of how you look at things. When I look at something I say, can do, no problem; that's not going to make me unhappy. Happiness is a choice!" -- Denis Waitley, excerpted from the 2004 Event, DVD 1 and/or CD 2, Track 11

"The confidence you need is belief in your potential. If you see world class potential in yourself, you'll put in the effort. If you don't see the potential, you won't put in the effort and you'll wait for the performance, and the performance always follows the belief in self." -- Denis Waitley, excerpted from the 2004 Event, DVD 2 and/or CD 3, Track 8

"Life is a do it with God, to myself, for others project." -- Denis Waitley, excerpted from the 2004 Event, DVD 2 and/or CD 3, Track 2

"The winning generation is generation D--digital, ipod, mp3, download, instant, video, streaming, knowledge, available, PLUS high touch. High touch - if you always give more in service than you expect to be paid, you'll always have plenty of money, because people pay for service and value, and they'll pay enormously for your talent and your knowledge." -- Denis Waitley, excerpted from the 2004 Weekend Event Teenager Session - The Winning Generation, DVD 5 and/or CD 9, Track 1

"The great thing about this God-given imagination is that you have the ability to play it right in advance and correct, without actually falling or failing." -- Denis Waitley, excerpted from the 2004 Event, DVD 2 and/or CD 4, Track 8

"The real champions in life are so humble and gracious. They just continue doing what they do without all the posturing. If you've got the real thing, you don't have to flaunt a loud imitation." -- Denis Waitley, excerpted from the 2004 Event, DVD 2 and/or CD 4, Track 9

"You've got the vicious cycle or the victor's circle. Let's get out of the vicious cycle. We imagine ourselves to be successful. We preplay it by simulation. We rehearse; we drill; we practice; we perform. Sometimes, we perform well. We feedback with reinforcement. Sometimes we do poorly--more input needed--always to the imagined desired result, always to the outcome we want, never punishing ourselves in the downward spiral. Winners imagine through goals, simulate through rehearsal, perform and then feed back." -- Denis Waitley, excerpted from the 2004 Event, DVD 2 and/or CD 4, Track 7

4. The Winner's Edge Coaching Tips

Welcome to week eight of our Ten Action Steps to Optimism. Internalize these tips to create the optimism within and as you do, let it radiate outward, illuminating not only your life but also those the lives of those around you! This week's tip is:

Visualize, think and speak well of your health. Use positive self-talk on a daily basis. Don't dwell on your own small ailments such as colds, headaches, cuts, bruises, muscle pulls, sprains and minor abrasions. If you pay too much attention to these occurrences they will reward you by becoming your best friends, coming often to pay their respects.

What the mind harbors, the body manifests. This is especially important when you are raising children. Focus on the well family, and dwell on health as the usual environment around your house. I have seen more psychosomatic illnesses in homes where the parents dote on and smother the children with undue concern for their health and safety than in any other type of household. I believe in safety precautions and sound medical practice. I also believe that "your worst" or "your best" concerns will likely come to pass.

So this week keep your mind tuned to healthful thoughts and reap the benefits of good health -- both mentally and physically!
