More Conscious Control of Our
Habits and Lifestyles Leads to a Rich, Balanced Life
To live a rich, balanced life we need to be more in
conscious control of our habits and lifestyles. Actualized individuals have a
regular exercise routine. They pay attention to nutrition, with lean source
protein and fiber-based carbohydrates as their basic food choices. They relax
through musical, cultural, artistic, and family activities. They get sufficient
sleep and rest to meet the next day renewed and invigorated.
In addition to blocking periods of time for recreation and vacations, they also
schedule large, uninterrupted periods of work on their most important projects.
Contrary to popular notions, most books, works of art, invention, and musical
compositions are created during uninterrupted time frames, not by a few lines,
strokes, or notes every so often. Every book or audio program I have written has
been done with the discipline of twelve to fifteen hours per day during a
specific block of time.
True enough, I may have sacrificed a ski trip or an escape vacation once or
twice. But by trying to focus on prime projects in prime time, the opportunity
costs have been outweighed by the return on invested resources. With your
material, time and energy resources allocated well, you should be able to use
your innovative powers to focus on goal achievement. Effective priority
management creates freedom. Freedom provides opportunity to make decisions. We
make our decisions and our decisions, over time, make us.
So this week, concentrate on making the decisions that make your goals!

Avoiding Futile Competition by Denis Waitley
(Excerpted from The Psychology of Motivation)
Seeing everyone as your competitor has two negative
consequences. First, it isolates you and your efforts,
putting a full burden on your shoulders that others could
help you bear; and second, it means you waste energy trying
to set others back rather than using that energy to push
yourself forward.
Consider the following true story by Frank Koch in an issue
of Proceedings, the magazine of the United States Naval
Institute. Two battleships assigned to the training squadron
had been at sea on maneuvers in heavy weather for several
days. Koch was serving on the lead battleship and was
standing watch on the bridge as night fell. He recounts his
experience.
"The visibility was extremely poor with patchy fog, so the
captain remained on the bridge, keeping an eye on our
navigation activities."
"Shortly after dark, the lookout on the wing of the bridge
reported, 'Light, bearing on the starboard bow!'
"The captain called out, 'Is it steady or moving astern?'
"The lookout replied, 'Steady, captain,' which meant that we
were on a collision course with that source of light.
"The captain then called to the signalman, 'Signal that
ship: We are on a collision course... advise you change
course 20 degrees.'
"Back came the signal from the other ship. 'Advisable for
you to change course 20 degrees!'
"The captain barked, 'Send, I'm a captain ... change course
20 degrees immediately.'
"'I'm a seaman second class,' came the reply. 'You had
better change course 20 degrees!' "By this time, the captain
was furious. He spat out, 'Send, I'm a battleship. Change
course 20 degrees.'
"Back came the signal from the flashing light, 'I'm a
lighthouse.'
"The captain changed course."
The moral of the story is that it is futile to try to set
others back when you could turn yourself 20 degrees and go
forward!
So this week check if you need to "course correct" and keep
moving forward!

Seeds of Determination: It's Up to Me
Life is a do-it-for-others, do-it-yourself project.
Stop stewing and start doing! Take action TNT. Today, Not
Tomorrow.
Life is not accountable to us for meaning; we are
accountable to life!
Don't put success and happiness on layaway. Do it now!
Everything that is past is either a learning experience to
grow on, a beautiful memory to reflect on, or a motivating
factor to act upon.
You have been given the greatest power in the world, the
power to choose.
Giant oaks do grow from little acorns; but first you must
have an acorn!
By thinking and acting affirmatively in this minute, you
will influence the hour, the day.
You are your own scriptwriter and the play is never
finished, no matter what your age or position in life.
These quotes were taken from Denis Waitley's Excerpts
from The Seeds of Greatness Treasury. Its huge demand is
based on the fact that it is an extremely elegant booklet
(silver foil on black leatherette), it is very high in
content (contains more than 100 quotes on 12 specially
selected topics, plus 5 poems). Each booklet has a special
TO and FROM section, making it a great gift for family,
friends and colleagues! And it sells for less than a dollar
each when purchased in multiples. For more information or to

4. The
Winner's Edge Coaching Tips
This week, we'll take a little twist and answer a question
posed to Denis by a subscriber asking advice on how to
become a public speaker. This is a question frequently posed
to Denis and other successful speakers, and so for the
benefit of those who are looking on tips and guidance, this
week is for you! Enjoy!
Q: Hi Denis, I enjoy your ezine. A bit about myself, my name
is Neville, I turned 50 years old on the 15th May 2005. I am
positive I used to listen to some of your tapes, when I was
driving. But let's start from the beginning as to why I am
writing to you. I was on what we call our monthly country
trip [is what all the representatives called going to other
towns and seeing the customers] it was a 3 day 2 nights away
from home. Leaving early the first morning and getting home
late on the last day. The date was 11 October 2001, I had a
serious car accident. I spent the next 8 months in the
hospital, the first 7 or 8 weeks in the intensive care unit
[I was unconscious]. Only one doctor, the neurosurgeon Dr.
Nadvi, said I would survive. Well, I am still alive to prove
him right. So I feel your tape which I used to listen to was
one of the reasons that I am still alive today. I am still
not a 100% but trying to get there. I have written to you a
number of times before, but they never sounded quite right to
me. But I can not keep putting it off. Because of my
accident, the company has given me early retirement, but I
get so bored. I have been looking to maybe start a little
business. With what I experienced I have thought about may
be trying my hand at being a motivational speaker. Could you
enlighten me as I need all the help I can get? Many thanks
Denis, and may your God go with you, regards Neville.
A: Dear Neville: Thank you for corresponding and telling me
about your remarkable personal story and recovery. You
already have the most important ingredient in becoming a
successful motivational speaker: "You are living proof of
the power within."
What you should do:
Begin speaking at service clubs and any organization that
meets regularly for lunch (This is how most successful
speakers began their careers).
At first you won't get a fee. No problem. But be sure you
ask for a recommendation or referral letter afterwards. And
try to audio record as many of your talks as possible. One
of those I recorded, that was only about 30 minutes in
length, was heard by Earl Nightingale and became the
audition tape that pushed my career into high gear.
You need a topic that you are identified with. "A Walking
Miracle" "Against All Odds", something like that. You need a
one-page flyer that describes your story, your background,
and any credentials that give you credibility.
Do an Internet search of "Speakers Bureaus" and, when you
are ready, send an audio CD or DVD promo of your talk. It
should be no longer than 20 to 30 minutes, and be in front
of a live audience who is reacting favorably to your
presentation.
The most important thing is for you to speak at every
opportunity in front of an audience.
If I had it to do all over again, the only thing I would
change would be my schedule. I have been on the road (or
plane) for most of the past 30 years. You are at the right
age to be able to travel without interrupting raising small
children.
Never, never give up on your dream.
Warm regards,
Denis Waitley

6. Customer Feedback
Here are some of the testimonials and comments we received over the past week from our Ezine subscribers. We love receiving comments and feedback from our readers - so keep it coming!
Dear Mr. Waitley, I wanted to send you a note letting you
know what a change you brought to my life. When I was 15
years old I had a coach put the Psychology of Winning tapes
in my hand and told me to listen to them until I could
recite them. I'm 38 years old now. The principles that you
taught me in those tapes helped a kid that was trying to
overcome a challenging childhood (divorce, abandonment,
physical handicap). I went on to be a four year state
qualifier in high school, and compete in a Div. 1 college
program. I was never a standout athlete in college, but was
able to use much of what you taught me to be the captain of
the teams. I took the principles you taught and have applied
them to my professional life, where I have consistently been
in the top 5% income earners. The greatest thanks go to you
for what I have been able to pass along to my three awesome
children. It has been tremendous to see how the principles
that you taught me, and that I passed along to them have
impacted them in their individual successes. You have lived
a life of significance, and I Thank You.

Hi Mr. Denis Waitley, we have a poet in our subcontinent
Indo-Pak, Mirza Ghalib, The Goethe of East has said, "It is
indeed difficult to make any job/work/assignment Easy, As it
is not achievable for a man to be a Human." You and Mr. Jim
Rohn and all people who are guiding mankind for being Human
is really a sacred task. It is really a priceless task. I
read and email to my friends and relations. Thank u for your
being kind.

Thank you Ezine readers, for the sincere and kind words of encouragement and appreciation you sent us this week! -- DW
